Philosophy
Of Pastoral Counselling
Pastoral Therapy is an integral part of the community of faith. Human life
as a creation of God discovers fulfillment within the context of a faith
community. A healthy faith community recognizes and uses its gifts and
skills to encourage, support and nurture its members.
Creation continues in a constant state of change throughout the seasons
of life from conception until death. Healthy human growth produces fruit
in an abundant and fulfilling life that reflects the Spirit of God. However,
many life experiences produce pain that prevents humans from functioning
in life-giving ways. Death, illness, trauma, conflict and the changes that
come from the passages of life very often disable families or individuals.
Pastoral counselling provides the opportunity to deal with these issues.
Professional Pastoral Therapists (PPT) are trained in theology, human behaviour,
and modern therapeutic theory and practice. These disciplines enable PPTs
to work with the whole person and to recognize the need to work in conjunction
with and to refer their clients to colleagues in other mental health fields.
Arbourlife Counselling adheres to the CAPPE/ACPEP Code of Ethics and Standards
of Practice.
